On September 16, 2020 We Honor Veterans Specialist Lora Porter, U.S. Navy (retired), visited Mr. McGaughey and his wife of 40 years at his residence in Lufkin, Texas. Mr. McGaughey was 97 years old at the time of our visit. He served in the U.S. Army for 4 years during World War II as an Engineer. He served in New Guinea, Philippines and Japan. After the war, he returned to Lufkin and began working at Texas Foundries as an office clerk, he worked his way up within the company to Vice President and eventually Managing Partner, he retired after 43 years. Mr. McGaughey's memories live on through his wife as Azheimer's have taken them from him. She recalls his stories with admiration, respect and love. The patient was presented with a framed certificate, American flag, letter from our CEO and a We Honor Veterans pin. It was an honor to be in the presences of a true hero who loved his county.
